A systems problem at Edinburgh's ATC meant no planes could enter or leave the facility.

Passenger services have restarted at Edinburgh Airport following a substantial technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.

All incoming and outgoing flights were suspended due to an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers reported being stuck in jets at the stand during the disruption.

Operations Restart with Residual Impact

Officials announced at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

That said, considerable delays are expected to persist for some time. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with many others experiencing delays.

Officials had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," the statement added.

Cause of the Chaos

The airport attributed the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers continue to be advised to confirm the details of their flight before heading to the hub as residual delays are cleared.
