England to Launch Euro 2028 Journey at City’s Home Ground

The English squad will initiate their Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they attain the expected entry for a championship staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.

City’s stadium has not staged an English men’s game since May 2016, when the visitors were beaten 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is almost certain to welcome the national team for their inaugural game on a Saturday in June 2028.

The English side are planned to play their last two group stage games at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning Group B, their round of 16 match would take place at St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean commencing the elimination stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Kickoff and Demonstration

The event was launched at an ceremony in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday evening. Key representatives from Uefa and the host football associations were barracked as they arrived the location by around fifty protesters, who called for Israel to be expelled from global football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Banners were displayed with phrases saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Fixture List

The first match of the European Championship will be played at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a match that will involve the Dragons if they qualify.

Wembley will host the penultimate rounds and the final, which will be played on a Sunday in July 2028 with a start time at 5:00 PM.

It is anticipated that an afternoon start, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will cater to households and help reach a more diverse set of fans.

Qualifying Teams

The Republic of Ireland are set to play their opening match at the Dublin Arena and the Scottish team would play similarly at the national stadium of Scotland.

All four host countries’ teams will participate in the qualification process; two reserved places will be reserved for any that miss out on the finals through that route.

Stadiums and Knockout Stage

Villa Park and The North London arena round out the event’s nine venues. All will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches held at the national stadium of each host.

The qualification draw will be staged in Belfast, which was removed as a host city last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be upgraded in time, on 6 December 2026.
