Powerful winter gusts brought walls down upon flimsy tents sheltering Palestinians uprooted by war in Gaza, killing at least 4 individuals. This tragedy highlights the perilous situation that persist after more than two years of devastating airstrikes and severe lack of humanitarian assistance.

Truce Offers No Respite from Severe Weather

Although a ceasefire has been in effect since October, aid groups report that Palestinians broadly lack the adequate shelter required to survive recurring winter storms.

Medical staff at Shifa hospital, which took in the victims, reported on this week that the deceased were a pair of adult females, a girl, and a man.

In a separate incident, the local health authority announced on Tuesday that a 12-month-old infant succumbed of hypothermia during the night.

"The world has allowed us to experience death in every possible way," stated a family member after the funeral. "It’s true the bombing may have temporarily stopped, but we have witnessed all imaginable reasons of fatality in the world in the Gaza Strip."

Relatives Buried in Tent Collapse

According to the medical center, three people of a single family — 72-year-old Mohamed Hamouda, his teenage granddaughter, and his daughter-in-law — were fatally injured when an 26-foot high wall fell onto their dwelling in a area near the sea of Gaza City. At least 5 additional people were injured in the event.

Their relatives on Tuesday began clearing the rubble that had entombed their family and reconstructing the tent shelters for survivors.

Humanitarian Distribution and Continuing Emergency

The UN and its aid organization allies were handing out tents, tarps, warm covers and clothes as well as nutrition and sanitation items across Gaza, stated the UN office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs.

Another Cold Season of Struggle
