Information Available Concerning the Fatalities of the Bondi Terror Attack

At least 16 people perished and over 40 were hurt when attackers shot at a Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach, an incident Australian police have labeled a terrorist attack.

According to the most recent information, officials have announced the death toll is 16, including one of the alleged gunmen. Furthermore, 42 injured people were taken to hospital.

The victims have not yet been formally identified, but police believe their ages span from 10 and 87 years of age.

Here are the individuals who have been named so far.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.

Reportedly a father-of-five, he served as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and acquaintances described him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.

“How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a family member asked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their newest son just a few months ago.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, according to his wife.

She described the events leading up to the shooting, stating they were standing when the gunfire started. “He moved to protect me because he wanted to stay near me,” she recalled.

The husband and wife were both Holocaust survivors, having faced unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had subsequently relocated to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

The French authorities have announced that French man Dan Elkayam is among the dead.

In a statement, the Foreign Minister declared that France shared the grief of his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This despicable act is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must combat,” the message read.

One Child

A child who was rushed to the a children's hospital succumbed to her injuries, police have confirmed.

One Israeli Citizen

One victim from Israel was a fatality during the attack, as per multiple sources referencing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

From the 42 people transported to hospital, a significant number are still receiving treatment, with a number in serious condition. The injured include two police officers who attended the scene.

One of the injured is a bystander who attempted to intervene to confront one of the gunmen. Described as a hero, he received gunshot wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Sources state he was injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.

In a message, he recounted the incident as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also noted the actions of those who rushed to help. He said he believed it was a “miracle” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the shooting. He said he heard “dozens and dozens” of shots.

“I thought it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I was hit. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
