Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
