Patriots Match Longest Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Era with Triumph Against New York Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five touchdowns this season
The New England Patriots tied their top unbeaten stretch from the Tom Brady era as they overcame division rivals the Jets 27-14 in professional football
Rookie Henderson shone brightly with three TDs as the New England squad notched an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's final season with the team in the 2019 season
Signal-caller Drake Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a TD, connecting on 25 out of 34 attempts
The triumph extends the New England's advantage at the top of the AFC East as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York bottom after dropping to two wins and eight losses
The Jets had taken the lead at their home field with quarterback Fields rushing for a five-yard TD to cap the New York's first possession
But the home team answered in the second period as Henderson ran in two short rushing scores before the running back hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the rear of the endzone in the middle of the third quarter to make it 21-7
"That was a big time for him stepping up, and it's been excellent for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He desires to be great."
Fields found Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to reduce the lead for the visitors but Borregales booted a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the home side closed out the win
