The original stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will return for the latest Hunger Games instalment, Sunrise on the Reaping.

Reports indicate that beloved stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.

A Significant Reunion for Fans

The duo will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their appearance will probably be featured in a flash-forward sequence, considering the original saga concluded with their characters married and with children.

This represents the sixth installment in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.

Exploring the New Story

Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a recent book by series creator Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who directed nearly all the previous films in the series.

The Storyline and Fresh Faces

The film's events are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The supporting roles feature several notable actors in pivotal roles:

  • Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
  • Ralph Fiennes will appear as a earlier incarnation of the menacing President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the production schedule:

  1. Principal photography commenced in the summer of 2025.
  2. Filming was completed in November of the same year.
  3. The eagerly awaited film is targeting a November 2026 premiere.

Moviegoers can now look forward to the comeback of these defining characters to the cinema.
