Vince Gilligan Shares He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will End... For Now.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that Pluribus would emerge as a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed program coming to an end—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Fan Response

It would be easy to get distracted by the rampant praise and online debates surrounding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to avoid both.

“It feels like an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Does the showrunner See the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by audience theories, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” he states. “but we are always ready to throw out a good idea for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
